Lesson 19

29 July 2025

Lesson 19, Psalm 67:1-7, NLT:  This psalm is not attributed to any specific author. We do know from the notes which preface, the psalm that it was a prayer set to music for the assembly of worshipers. The Hebrew root word Negan appears in the instruction. The term meant the prayer was to be engaged in with music accompaniment and singers.  The stringed instruments were designated for worship. These were principally the lyre, harp, and a ten-stringed instrument, which was a special harp called, the psaltery. This is helpful because the specific note of music instruction helps us understand the mood behind the prayer. Psalm 67 is one of several psalms where the prayer is intended to bring solace and peace to the faithful of God during a national mood of emotional turmoil. The prayer is not just for Israel, but an expectation that God will bless other nations as well. If the conduct of people everywhere reflects the ways of God, there will be joy, praise, and justice in the world. This expectation of hope for people to know and obey God, is for all, including leaders of nations (See, 1 Timothy 2:1-3, NLT). It is our confidence in God and faith in His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we have hope!
