Lesson 23
9 June 2026
Acts 2:41-47 NLT: The presence of the Holy Spirit and the spirit of Jesus Christ in the early believers was manifested in the results of obedience to Christ to, “Be witnesses of His teachings and Kingdom.” We see the unity of believers after Pentecost and how devoted they were to the Apostles’ teachings. This genuine and committed expression of faith among the believers to “make disciples” reached many unbelievers. The Church grew exponentially from 500 to 3,000 and later a number too great to be counted. We need only observe the discipline and patterns of Christian worship and discipleship among the early believers to understand the model for the life and witness of the Church!
Verses & Explanations for Acts 2:41-47, NLT:
(Verse 41): Power of the Gospel to birth new believers:
41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
(Verse 42): People were devoted to teachings of the Word:
(Verse 42): People shared genuine fellowship (Koinonia):
(Verse 42): People shared in fellowship meals:
(Verse 42): People shared in the Lord’ Supper and Prayer:
42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
(Verse 43): They experienced awe, miracles and wonder:
43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.
(Verse 44): They were in a common space and shared their resources:
44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.
(Verse 45): They gave generously and were benevolent toward others:
45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.
(Verse 46): The believers worship daily in the Temple but continued study, Communion and fellowship in their homes:
46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—
(Verse 47): The witness of the believers brought new converts and healthy growth:
47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Further Reading:
16 “What should we do with these men?” they asked each other. “We can’t deny that they have performed a miraculous sign, and everybody in Jerusalem knows about it. 17 But to keep them from spreading their propaganda any further, we must warn them not to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again.” 18 So they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:16-20, NLT)
