Lesson 13
10 June 2025
Lesson 13, Psalm 46:1-11: This wonderful psalm was given to the Sons of Korah, a family of priests who were set apart to direct music for the community of faith. We see in the Hebrew translation of this psalm several references to music terms. The word, Selah, was an interlude, or reverent period, after a stanza of the psalm was sung. How often do people pause today and reflect on what is the meaning of words which are sung; and to truly acknowledge the One to whom the song should be giving reverence and honor?. This was the intent of the psalms, and especially all that were set to music score. Unlike many of the psalms of David which are focused on his personal struggles, Psalm 46 speaks to crises that affect people more broadly. Nations are experiencing crises of great proportions. Wars, national and international disputes are rampart. Natural disasters are common occurrences. Yet, the faithful are instructed to Be still. Keep your focus of the God of Heaven’s Armies! Regardless of our circumstances we must remain confident in the Lord’s work. The insecurities we often experience, can be overcome by God who is our safety and strength! He remains “ready” to help us.
