Lesson 27

Lesson 27 Psalm 36:1-26, NKJV: The Levites, official singers for all national worship in the life of Israel, were commissioned to sing the words we read in Psalm 136. This hymn is attributed to King David, who it Is believed gave the words to the Levites and directed them to include the language in the daily devotions of the faithful in Israel. The hymn retraces God’s mercy in creation; the journey from Egypt through the wilderness; and the defeat of other Kings and armies who tried unsuccessfully to defeat Israel as they took possession of Caanan, the land promised to them. The ending part of each verse repeats “thanks to God for His enduring mercy.” Solomon used this hymn when he dedicated the inaugural Temple in Jerusalem, and Jehosaphat ordered his soldiers to sign the hymn after the enemy was defeated in battle. This psalm is a hymn of thanksgiving to God for His enduring love, kindness and endless mercies. We should read this psalm thinking of the goodness of the Lord in our lives and on our behalf.
