PASTOR’S COLUMN
14 “So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God 15 on the twenty-fourth day of the second year of King Darius’ reign.”
Haggai 1;14-15, NIV
“Ignited by the Spirit of God!”
It often is the result o some compelling moment in our lives that we become redirected to a greater purpose. A person could spend years in the same mode of thinking, without any motivation to do something different and more meaningful. There is always a moment of discovery in life, when people can lift themselves from the lethargic state they’re trapped in. But for God’s intervention, some aspect of life and opportunity would have become lost. In the long history of God’s people, a moment of crisis - which has been fueled by events and circumstances which were contrary to God’s plan – has opened eyes, melted cold hearts, and sparked a spirit of cooperation which has made a difference. Haggai the prophet, spoke to people who were part of the Jewish diaspora after exile in Babylon. The land was now under Persian rule, but the Jews living under Persian domination were blessed to have a king who agreed to help them restore the Temple in Jerusalem. Haggai pointedly told the Jewish survivors, their disobedience and failure to change their ways (repent) had brought calamity to them. Regardless, if they repented their sins and obeyed God, their new Temple would be built. Moreover, God Almighty would remain with them. It was on a late September day, the Spirit of the Lord was placed in Zerubbabel, the provincial governor of Jerusalem; in Joshua the son of the high priest, Jozadak, and jn the people who remained. The Spirit of the Lord fueled the spirits of the leaders and people They worked on a Temple they doubted could be rebuilt. They were ignited!
