PASTOR’S COLUMN

⁹  “Then he shouted to Saul, “Why do you listen to people who say I am trying to harm you?  ¹⁰  This very day you can see with your own eyes it isn’t true. Foe the Lord placed you at my mercy back there in the cave. Some of my men told me to kill you. For I said,  “I will never harm the king – he is the Lord’s anointed one.  ¹¹  Look, my father, at what I have in my hand. It is a piece of the hem of your robe! I cut it off, but I didn’t kill you. This proves that I am not trying to harm you and that I have not sinned against you, even though you have been hunting  for me to kill me! 1Samuel24:9-11,NLT                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

“In It, To Get Through It!”

Some places we end up in life may seem peculiar to us – but it  often is where God does great work.  The Scriptures give us a glimpse of  an aspect of God’s nature. He directs us into certain situations, only to put us in a better place.  For instance when Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, and sold into slavery in Egypt by his cousins, he could hardly believe what was happening to him. Some thirteen years later when Joseph found himself in the palace of the king of Egypt, wearing a royal robe and became the second highest official in the land, he instantly realized God had a hand in his ordeal. “What you did to me,” Joseph told his brothers, “you meant for evil, but God meant it all for good.  Such an affirmation does not come easy – especially when we’re in the thick of things. Similarly, David experienced difficulties as he attempted to show respect for a King who came to despise him, out of fear and insecurity for his own future. King Saul sought to assonate David, and with 300 of his best soldiers, perused David. In the wilderness area called En-Gedi , David hid in a cave.  King Saul went into the same cave , but on an opposite side. David saw King Saul, but Saul did not see David. Urged by his friends to kill Saul, David refused. He showed mercy to Saul by cutting the hem of his robe as he passed by a crevice where David and his men were hiding. Sometimes trouble is close, but God is closer. God ever protects us!
