PASTOR’S COLUMN
44 “Then He said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understanding the Scripture. 46 And He said, “Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of His name to all the nations beginning in Jerusalem. There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent. 48 You are witnesses of all these things.” Luke 24:44-48, NLT
“Believe Him for Who You Are!”
The nativist and mutually exclusive spirit that haunts many people groups across the world today is contrary to the message and mission of Jesus Christ. Christians of all people should be keenly aware that Jesus Christ has given us a mandate to reach all the world with His message of forgiveness, love, salvation and reconciliation. In short the Christ we serve is concerned that the will of the Heavenly Father is fulfilled in every generation. Unless we have forgotten: “God is patient not wanting anyone to perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, NKJV). Jesus was patient and compassionate with the disciples after His Resurrection – especially during the 40-day period He was seen among them and witnesses. Perhaps the doubting of the disciples even in the face of all they saw ad experienced with Jesus, is but an iteration of a human tendency to remain unconvinced of things that really matter. In the human sphere of thinking, what is most immediate to us seems more compelling and convincing. It was widely reported that many people on the Titanic Ocean Liner perished while lifeboat seats initially remained empty. They believed the ship was unsinkable even as the vessel was sinking in the ocean. Our immediate impressions often will work against us, when compared to the truth. Jesus told the disciples to believe Him and become witnesses, proclaiming His bold message to all!
