PASTOR’S COLUMN

5  “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6  And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly  to these commands that I am giving you.  7  Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them  when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7, NLT

3rd Sunday in Lent – Living the Faith

The greatest gift any of us could give an emerging generation is the meaning and practice of loving God and living according to the principles we are taught in the Holy Scriptures. This is not a laborious or puritanical task, but one that provides our offspring with the sure foundation they will need to build their lives upon. The shifting values of this world, which change daily, is merely “sinking sand.” We must stand on the solid Truth God has given us, and which can never be diminished nor evaporate. When ancient Israel was forming what would become their new nation, Yahweh reminded them of their single devotion to Him as their God. No other deity would be worshiped nor placed before Him. Complete devotion to our God and what we learn from what He communicates in the Scriptures is source for living. As the faithful was commanded, so must we teach emerging generations who our God is – and how He is involved in our lives; the earth, and the heavens. Teaching our children and offspring about God and the timeless values and principles He gives us to live by must be done with consistently and regularity. The faith we Christians live by is too deep, broad, and enduring to be practiced only on Sunday. We must live what we believe and what has brought change and transformation to our lives - morning and night, every day. The instruction to receive and live our faith is not as much a ritual, as it is the practice of our faith with regularity and purpose. There is no substitute in all of life, but to be solemnly present before the Lord! He will direct our path!
