PASTOR’S COLUMN

10   “ Paul went down, bent over him and took him into his arms. “Don’t worry,” he said,, he’s alive.” 11 Then they all went back upstairs, shared in the Lord’s Supper, and ate together. Paul continued talking to them until dawn and then he left. 12  “Meanwhile , the young man was taken  home alive and well.” Acts 20:10-12 NLT

“Remaining Awake!”

The story of a young man who survived a near death experience is in the book of Acts, but many readers overlook the short story. There is nothing in the Scriptures that is unimportant or has no efficacy in better understanding God’s purpose for our lives. In the active voice of the Greek translation, Jesus instructs us to , “Dig deep into the Scriptures for in them you have eternal life. These words testify about me “(John 5:39,Modified). That being said we find in Acts 20 that the Apostle Paul is ending a five-day visit in Troas. On the Sunday the apostle was to depart, he remained to join the believers in worship, the Lord’s Supper and fellowship. Bit Paul preached a long sermon before a group that packed the second-level room in which the church gathered A young man came to the service but could only find a seat in a windowsill in an upper level of the room. Between Paul’s long sermon and the flickering lights, Eutychus,- the young man- fell asleep. He fell into a deep sleep and fell three stories to the floor. Alarmed ,many thought he was dead. The Apostle Paul  ran quickly to him and engaged him in breathing again. The people were relieved, but Paul returned to his sermon. When the sermon ended, Paul and the others found the man very  much alive and well. While emphasis has been placed on the miraculous recovery of the man, attention should be given to how we keep every generation engaged with what we do in worship. What we do is of upmost importance, but we must have space for al who come to learn, experience value, and remain alert to all that we do. The story of Eyuticus is sobering and hopeful, After akk he survived a fall and was found alive, awake, nd well
