Lesson 18

22 July 2025

Lesson 18, Psalm 62:1-12, NLT: One of the great tensions in life is wondering who can we trust? From earliest civilization there have been innumerable breaches of friendship and confidence in people. Although many of these difficult moments have been experienced with people we hardly have known, the most piercing hurt has come from persons we either knew or thought we were familiar with. In Psalm 62, David let’s us know regardless of the source, adversarial harm does affect people whose trust is in God. David offers an approach to tackling unpleasant issues in life by encouraging us to see there’s is no better place to begin than in silence with God. By silence, David means a time of “quiet” before God. During the turbulent moments in our lives, a “silent sitting” before God will strengthen our trust and resolve in the Lord. The Scriptures assure us that God will judge all wrong, and He “alone” will deliver us from our trials. Of note is the strong admonition “not to make wealth the center” of one’s life. Our God alone who can be trusted, should be the undisputed “center” of life. God does not hold one group of people in esteem over others. It is God’s unfailing love and mercy that sustains us. No foe is too great for God, and our deliverance comes from Him. In quiet confidence we will find our strength and resolve in every situation!

Psalm 62:3-4, NLT

3 So many enemies against one man – all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence.  4 They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude

Psalm 62:5-7, NLT

5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation. My fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock, where no enemy can reach me.

And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life.

Psalm 62:11-12, NLT
