Lesson 11, Part 2
27 May 2025
Lesson 11, Psalm 37:24-40 Part 2, In the second part of Psalm 37 (Verses 24-40) the righteous are assured they will not fall from God’s loving and protective care. When we remain obedient to God’s instructions (laws) and moral/ethical principles (precepts), we will receive His blessings and benefits promised to us. While it is impossible for us to prevent all evil from occurring in the world, we should not fear those who commit wrong and perpetuate evil. Just as the godly are not overlooked by God, the unrepentant will suffer the consequences of their misdeeds and evil. David likely wrote this psalm in his later years, when he could reflect on how God never failed to bless His children. David also had lived to see the wicked falter and become destroyed because of their evil deeds. The psalm draws the stark contrast between the age-old dual between good and evil. Although the righteous are persistently challenged by the evil and injustice around us, the end of wrongdoers is certain. The Scripture says, “…the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” (Psalm 1:6b, NIV). Davis emphasizes this point. But he mentions the regards and benefits reserved for the godly will more than compensate for any suffering we ever could endure. The blessings for all who obey God will benefit their children. Generational blessings come to those who are faithful to God.

The Key Idea:
What We Believe!
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path!” - Psalm 119:105
Key Verses:
Psalm 37:24-26, NLT
24 “Though the stumble, they will never fall. For the Lord holds them by the hand. 25 Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. 26 The godly always give generous loans to others, and their children are a blessing.
Psalm 37:27-33, NLT
27 Turn from evil and do good, and you will live in the land forever. 28 For the Lord loves justice, and He will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die. 29 The godly will possess the land and will live there forever. 30 The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong.
31 They have made God’s law their own, so they will never slip from His path. 32 The wicked wait in ambush for the godly, looking for an excuse to kill them. 33 But the Lord will not let the wicked succeed or let the godly be condemned when they are out on trial.
Psalm 37:34-36, NLT
34 Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along His path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. 35 I have seen wicked and ruthless people flourishing like a tree in its native soil. 36 But when I looked again, they were gone! Though I searched for them, I could not find them!
Psalm 37:37-40, NLT
37 Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace. 38 But the rebellious will be destroyed; they have no future. 39 The Lord rescues the godly; He is their fortress in times of trouble. 40 The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in Him.”
Word To Ponder
Numerous times in Psalm 37, we read of God’s promise “to bless” persons who are faithful and obedient to Him. The term “blessing” (noun) “to bless” (verb) is from the Old Testament root word berek. Some aspect of “blessing” occurs over 400 times in the Scriptures. “Blessing” is a relational act, where generosity, favor, and honor is given to the recipient with whom one is familiar or related to. God always blesses His own.
