Lesson 21
26 May 2026
Acts 2:31-41, NLT: The enduring proof of the Holy Spirit is realized in the work He does in transforming the lives of people. The coming of the Holy Spirit to the faithful disciples and followers of Jesus Christ at Pentecost, was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. The Lord’s promise of the Holy Spirit was Jesus’ belief in what was prophesied, and in what the Heavenly Father told Him. The culmination of the ministry of Jesus while on earth would assuredly be followed by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the hearts and minds of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Messiah (Savior). Never again would a true believer have to pray as David saying, “…take not your Holy Spirit away from me.” (Ps. 51:11, KJV). The believers received (complete verb tense) the Holy Spirit. Peter and the other witnesses spread the Good News as Jesus commanded them!
Verses & Explanations for Acts 2:31-41 NLT:
Observe Interpret Apply
(Verse 31): David prophesied the Resurrection of Jesus:
31 “David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.
(Verse 32): Peter and the other believers are unashamed witnesses of the Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus:
32 “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.
(Verse 33): The promise of the holy Spirit fulfilled:
33 Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.
(Verses 34-35): David’s prophecy is fulfilled:
34 For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand 35 until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”’
(Verse 36): Good news declared Jesus as Lord and Messiah:
36 “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”
(Verse 37): First converts are persuaded:
37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
(Verse 38): How to receive the Holy Spirit:
38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(Verses 39-40): The Spirit for all believers in Christ:
39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”
(Verse 41): The church (believers) increased!:
41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
The Key Idea:
