Lesson 5 – Luke 2:39-52, NLT:

Our journey from conception to life to living is a road with many bends and turns. As we live, so do we learn and come to understand the meaning of life and the meaning of the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ evolved from his earliest days. A mere twelve years from his infancy at Bethlehem, was the beginning of a journey of redemption, fulfilling Biblical prophecy and the will of the Heavenly Father As a twelve-year-old, the nearly 91 mile trip from Nazareth in the Galilee region to the capital city of Jerusalem was made less cumbersome when traveling with relatives, neighbors, and friends. Jesus had a mission few of the persons around him could fully understood, yet we see the adolescent Jesus listens and responds to the voice that has called him into purpose. His maturity enhanced his growth and understanding. as

 

Verses & Explanations for Luke 2:39-52, NLT:

Observe     Interpret     Apply

(Verses 39-40): Fulfilling and growing into purpose.

(Verses 41-42): God’s purpose in faith customs.

(Verses 43-45): A diversion as part of one’s destiny.

(Verses 46–50):  Discerning God’s purpose takes time.

(Verses 51-52): Understanding God’s purpose takes humility.

 

 

Key Verses:

Luke 2:39-40:

39 “When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. 40  There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with God’s wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.

 

Luke 2:41-42:

41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. 42 When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.

 

Luke 2:43-45:

43 After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first,  44 because they. assumed he was among the other… travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives.   45 When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there.

 

Luke 2:46-50:

46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them  and asking questions. 47 All who  heard him there  were amazed at his understanding and answers.. 48  His parents didn’t know what to think. ‘Son,’ his mother said to him, ‘why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you?’ 49 ‘But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?’ 50 But they didn’t understand what he meant.

 

Luke 2:51-52:

51 Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart. 52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor.”
