DIRECTOR OF MUSIC WANTED

Director of Music Ministries
Concord Baptist Church of Boston seeks a skilled organist and music
director to lead the music ministry at this dynamic urban church
located in the heart of Boston’s South End. This 125 year old institution
serves over 1400 congregants including a significant percentage who
participate in the various music ministries.
The position requires Christian maturity, strong communication and
interpersonal skills, and a deep knowledge of church worship and doctrine.
In addition to playing the organ and directing choirs, the Director of Music
Ministries (along with the Pastor) develops a vision for a comprehensive
music program, oversees paid and volunteer music personnel, monitors the
music budget, and is responsible for the use and care of the church’s
instruments.
The successful candidate will be a person of genuine Christian character
with demonstrated music skills and a love for Christ and His church. Accrued
paid vacation; salary commensurate with experience. Due to the nature of

Position
Type: Part-time must accommodate service per Sunday morning, weekly
rehearsals and other services as assigned by the Director of Music
Ministries.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and
assignment

The
ministry of music at Concord Baptist seeks to glorify God and mediate the
grace and presence of God through:
- The
creative interpretation of the Church’s musical literature, and
- The
celebration of many genres of music from spirituals to contemporary
gospel, and
- The
fostering of a Christian community within the church, the city and
beyond
Accountability
The
Assistant Choral Director, according to the by-laws, is employed by the
Church on recommendation of the Music Vision Committee in consultation with
the Deacons and the Pastor.
Under the supervision of the Director of Music Ministries, the
Assistant Choral Director is responsible for rehearsing, accompanying, and
preparing tow ensembles ministry and worship.
The Assistant Choral Director is responsible to the Director of Music
Ministries and the Pastor.
Responsibilities
of the Assistant Choral Director
The
Assistant Choral Director will
be responsible for working closely
with the Director of Music Ministries, the Pastor, and the Music Vision
Committee to support and execute the overall vision, mission and goals of
the music ministry.
As the secondary organist/pianist
and choral director, the Assistant Choral Director will rehearse and lead
choral groups
as assigned, support efforts to foster and coordinate the worship life
of the congregation by teaching congregational, choral and instrumental
music, indicative of the rich and diverse musical heritage of the church, and
attend regularly scheduled meetings
with music ministry personnel.
- Support
the vision of the music ministry and uphold music ministry goals
- Participate
in planning and selecting choral material for all regular and special
services of worship including but not limited to revivals, conferences,
weddings, funerals and special celebrations
- Maintain
the highest professional competencies from a wide range of religious
repertoire
- Maintain
openness to the diverse genres and styles of music and sensitivity to
the balance of familiar and unfamiliar hymns and choral music
- Sustain
highest possible Christian and professional ideals when facilitating the
vision of the church music ministry e.g. lead devotion
- Support
and maintain the music ministry as it draws upon a number of
constituencies, including Children for Christ, Brotherhood Chorus, Jeter
Gospel Chorus, Women of Praise, United Voices, Praise Team, instrumental
ensembles, and featured soloists
- Conduct
regular weekly rehearsals
- Support
fellowship and collaboration among members of the choirs through
rehearsals, social and educational activities
- Support
recruitment from congregational talent for participation in the
church’s musical life
- Support
opportunities for artistic development and growth of participants of all
ages
- Support
and nurture relationships with other church and music programs
- Maintain
accurate records for the annual music report
- Coordinate
planned vacations and/or absences with Director of Music Ministries and
Pastor
- Coordinate
use of resources with Director of Music Ministries
- Support
high standards of spiritual commitment and musical excellence for those
involved in worship
- Some
travel required
- Other
duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Committed
Christian faith, genuine spirituality and a humble mindset
- Bachelor’s
degree in Music or equivalent professional experience in music field
preferred
- Piano
and organ skills; ability to transpose and sight-read with proficiency
and ease
- Knowledgeable
of vocal production and pedagogy ideal
- Well
versed in variety of musical styles and traditions and skilled in vocal
arranging
- Knowledgeable
of the Scriptures as it relates to song selection and church music
- Strong
organizational and administrative skills preferred
- Demonstrated
ability to work in a group dynamic
- Passion
for music; a love of people and the church
- Awareness
of cultural differences and an ability to work with youth and families
from a variety of backgrounds preferred
- A
passion for music and singing and knowledge of arts management ideal
- Strong
interpersonal and communication skills
- Inspire
an environment of professionalism including accountability and
punctuality
